About Us
Babilla Collective is a language justice project led by Cristóbal Guerra and pao lebrón, long-time collaborators with 10+ years of experience in the field. We are queer Boricua, artists and cultural workers who come from experiences of migration and diaspora. Alongside a trusted network of language comrades, we work to support cultural, artistic, political spaces in prioritizing and practicing language justice through a queer lens of gender inclusivity and anti-racist language.
pao lebrón is a cook, language, and cultural worker that uses language to traverse from food to traditions and identity. They’ve been working to challenge linguistic hierarchies as an interpreter/translator by practicing language justice in and out of movement work. pao has organized various multi-lingual projects at the intersections of food, queerness and land justice. They approach their work by centering a creative process to create collective new visions. pao spends their time between Borikén and NYC.
Quienes Somos
Babilla es un equipo liderado por pao y Cristóbal, colaboradores de larga trayectoria. Somos Boricuir transfeministas, trabajadores del lenguaje con trayectorias marcadas por la migración y la diáspora. Con más de 10 años de experiencia, y junto a una red de compañeres de confianza, apoyamos espacios culturales, artísticos y políticos en darle prioridad y práctica a la justicia lingüística, siempre desde una mirada antirracista e inclusiva de género.
Cristóbal Guerra is a filmmaker, writer, and language justice worker working across experimental cinema and movement-based language access. His practice uses critical fabulation to approach queer mythologies and archives as unstable, translated terrains. As an interpreter, he collaborates with queer communities and their allies to build equitable language practices in social justice spaces, grounding both his film and language work in struggles tied to Borikén and its diaspora.
